Children's Miracle Network is an international charity dedicated to improving the health of children by raising funds and public awareness for children's hospitals. Children's hospitals provide specialist medical care, conduct life-saving research and preventive education that help children overcome illnesses and injuries of every kind.
Established in 1983 by the Osmond Family and John Schneider, Children's Miracle Network was a televised fundraiser that generated £2 million for 22 children's hospitals. Children's Miracle Network quickly became one of the largest children's charities in North America. In the past 25 years, Children's Miracle Network has raised almost £2 billion for children's hospitals.
Today, Children's Miracle Network includes 170 children's hospitals in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia and last year alone generated more than £100 million.
UNITED KINGDOM
In the United Kingdom, Children's Miracle Network UK registered with the Charities Commission of England & Wales (Registered Charity No. 1119962) and began operations in September 2007.
Twenty-four children's hospitals across the United Kingdom are eligible to receive funding from Children's Miracle Network campaigns. The funding will be used to provide additional equipment and services over and above what is provided for by the National Health Service.
Advances in technology bring new and more effective ways to care for children with chronic and catastrophic illnesses. Research into new medicines and therapies have reduced pain and suffering, and increased survival rates for children with serious illnesses. Keeping current with technological advances and research can be costly and often exceeds the available funding.
Fundraising can help fill the gap to insure the best possible care is available when children need it. Private support can enhance the care provided by the NHS. Additional funding can assist in developing preventive care programmes and in advancing research for better treatments for life-threatening illnesses. Donations can help make it possible to keep children close to the comforts of home and family when serious illness strikes.
Children's Miracle Network campaigns can help fill the funding gap to help hospitalized children get better faster. Thousands of special events and grassroots fundraisers are conducted year-round through a coalition of premier children's hospitals, media partners and corporate sponsors and volunteers working together to ensure healthy children in their communities.
